Gorgeous round and heavy shells with a nicely developed cup are clear indicators of their four year long growout in cold Canadian waters. Martini olive brine complexity that is still super crushable, with a clean and refreshing finish.

About Kings Cups Oysters

Harvest location: Boughton River, Prince Edward Island, Canada

How they’re grown: After a visit to the Island Creek farm, Phil was inspired by what he saw on our Aunt Dotty farm. He ordered the same gear we use to keep the Dottys off the bay floor, used that technique on his East Cape oysters, and the Kings Cup was born! The farm takes 3 year old oysters grown in floating cages from one growing area and finishes them for another full season in the same open topped trays that are used at the Aunt Dotty farm in Saquish.

Why they’re unique:
Phil grows other varieties of oysters; Sand Dunes are bottom-planted and East Capes are grown on the surface, making the Kings Cup a hybrid oyster which gives it a unique look and flavor profile. They are grown in a tidal area that goes dry every couple of weeks. The constant rising and falling of the tide makes for a naturally tumbled beautiful shape.

Story:
Phil started this oyster farm in 2016 as an irresistible side hustle. Growing up on PEI, Phil fell in love with the ocean and boating and couldn’t let the opportunity to grow oysters pass him by. His main source of business is exporting his own farmed onions and potatoes he grows on PEI. Sand Dunes have been in Canada for over 30 years and came to the U.S. for the first time in 2017. We are super grateful to have access to work with such a fun crew who grows beautiful oysters.

Oyster FAQ

How long do my oysters keep?

Your oysters keep in the refrigerator for 5-7 days!  You can order a day or two early to make sure you have them in time for your gathering.  They are totally fine hangin’ out in the cool air.

How do I store these bad boys?

When you receive your package, pull them out of the box (these guys need a little fresh air!). Grab a mixing bowl and throw the mesh bag in the bowl so that the oysters don’t leak all over your refrigerator. Grab a damp cloth and throw the cloth over the bowl.  You are good to go for the next 5-7 days. Doesn’t hurt to dampen the cloth each day to keep them moist and chilled.

Should I keep them on ice?

Only put the oysters on ice before service.  The oysters will actually die in the melted fresh water so do not store the oysters on ice.  They will not like this.

How are they shipped?

We ship using FedEx Overnight service. You will receive tracking info after the label has been printed the day before your oysters are set to arrive.  We do not require a signature – Fedex will leave your package at your doorstep.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Short answer: YES!

Our ClimaCell thermal liners are made of 90% FSC certified virgin kraft paper and corn starch, which allows you to recycle the insulated liner at home along with the cardboard box.

Not only are the liners water repellant, they’re just as insulating as traditional styrofoam AND they can be recycled up to 5 times. Saving the planet has never been easier.
