These aren't your ordinary Rhode Island oysters. A strong saltiness up front is followed by an unmistakable bread and butter richness that fades into a delicate, sweet finish.

About Sea Kist Oysters

Harvest location: Dutch Harbor, Jamestown, RI

How they’re grown: Sea Kist are grown in floating flip farm baskets that keep them elevated in the water column for maximum access to nutrients and tumbling wave action. After 14-24 months, they are ready for harvest. The farm is located in the southern part of Narragansett Bay, one of the most pristine, unspoiled locations in Southern New England.

Why they’re unique:
Pure Atlantic Ocean water surges in on the incoming tide and Narragansett Bay water floods on the outgoing tide, which lends a complex flavor profile that varies beautifully season to season.

Story:
We’ve worked with Nick for years and have enjoyed using his farm as an excuse to visit Rhody in the summer. Nick started out as a commercial shellfish harvester in Narragansett bay at age 14 and caught the bug. In 2003, he started his first farm, East Beach Blondes, as a side project to supplement his income as a full time commercial harvester. In 2018, Nick bought the Sea Kist farm from Bill Cregan where he remained a 10% owner. The last 3 years have been spent converting the lease into a flip farm.

All in the name: "Kist" is a chest that treasure would be stored in, so "Sea Kist" is like the treasure chest of the sea!

Oyster FAQ

How long do my oysters keep?

Your oysters keep in the refrigerator for 5-7 days!  You can order a day or two early to make sure you have them in time for your gathering.  They are totally fine hangin’ out in the cool air.

How do I store these bad boys?

When you receive your package, pull them out of the box (these guys need a little fresh air!). Grab a mixing bowl and throw the mesh bag in the bowl so that the oysters don’t leak all over your refrigerator. Grab a damp cloth and throw the cloth over the bowl.  You are good to go for the next 5-7 days. Doesn’t hurt to dampen the cloth each day to keep them moist and chilled.

Should I keep them on ice?

Only put the oysters on ice before service.  The oysters will actually die in the melted fresh water so do not store the oysters on ice.  They will not like this.

How are they shipped?

We ship using FedEx Overnight service. You will receive tracking info after the label has been printed the day before your oysters are set to arrive.  We do not require a signature – Fedex will leave your package at your doorstep.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Short answer: YES!

Our ClimaCell thermal liners are made of 90% FSC certified virgin kraft paper and corn starch, which allows you to recycle the insulated liner at home along with the cardboard box.
