Reliably consistent in size with perfect meat that really fills out the shell. The flavor is the most pleasant, balanced brininess anyone could hope for, like a Maldon Sea Salt crunch on a piece of delicate seaweed.

About Ocean Kiss Oysters

Harvest location: New Meadows River near Bath, Maine

How they’re grown: Seed goes into upwellers in the spring and stays there until it’s time to prepare for winter. As the frigid temperatures approach, the small oysters are put into cages on the bottom of the ocean floor where they will avoid ice and stormy weather. Come March, when a hint of warmth finally arrives, they are brought up to the surface, sorted and put back in bags to finish growing out to market size, at around 16-20 months.

Why they’re unique:
Because these oysters are planted on the ocean floor, they can be harvested all winter long. Their location provides enough protection from the harsh winters that Maine is known for, but they still get tossed around in heavy winds and strong tidal currents. All this action brings in a ton of nutrients to keep these oysters plump and flavorful.

Story:
Chris has been a commercial fisherman for 32 years, so he has been in the biz for a long time, and he knows people... His wife's family runs the Winterpoint oyster farm, considered to be one of the quintessential Maine oysters. Because of the relationship he gets his seed from their farm, so suffice to say, the Ocean Kiss have great genetics. Winterpoints never really leave Maine with the local obsession being very real, but think of the Ocean Kiss oyster as the second label of a fancy Bordeaux chäteau that you can actually get your hands...well, most of the time.

Oyster FAQ

How long do my oysters keep?

Your oysters keep in the refrigerator for 5-7 days!  You can order a day or two early to make sure you have them in time for your gathering.  They are totally fine hangin’ out in the cool air.

How do I store these bad boys?

When you receive your package, pull them out of the box (these guys need a little fresh air!). Grab a mixing bowl and throw the mesh bag in the bowl so that the oysters don’t leak all over your refrigerator. Grab a damp cloth and throw the cloth over the bowl.  You are good to go for the next 5-7 days. Doesn’t hurt to dampen the cloth each day to keep them moist and chilled.

Should I keep them on ice?

Only put the oysters on ice before service.  The oysters will actually die in the melted fresh water so do not store the oysters on ice.  They will not like this.

How are they shipped?

We ship using FedEx Overnight service. You will receive tracking info after the label has been printed the day before your oysters are set to arrive.  We do not require a signature – Fedex will leave your package at your doorstep.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Short answer: YES!

Our ClimaCell thermal liners are made of 90% FSC certified virgin kraft paper and corn starch, which allows you to recycle the insulated liner at home along with the cardboard box.

Not only are the liners water repellant, they’re just as insulating as traditional styrofoam AND they can be recycled up to 5 times. Saving the planet has never been easier.

Reviews

I don't recommend

"I have ordered from Island Creek nearly a dozen times (no exaggeration). Oysters were small, dry (no soup inside, stuck to the side of the shell which made me worry about getting sick), lacked flavor. One of the most disappointing oysters that I've ordered and they further disappointed me was sending me 43 in an order of 50. Just cause you grow, oysters doesn't mean you should sell them."

"I have only had issues with oysters three times so I am very happy with Island Creek. However I will not get ocean Kiss again. Most were good but a-lot were a little dry. They also were small"
