You'll find these are similar to Island Creeks but sweeter due to the farm site's proximity to fresh water sources. Delightfully earthy, mineral, and savory. The shells are strong and resilient.

About Howland's Honeydrop Oysters

Harvest location: Duxbury, Massachusetts

How they’re grown: Howland's Honeydrops are grown in the waters of Kingston Bay in a protected area known as "The Nook'. It's the only farm in Duxbury on the western side of Standish Shore, giving the oysters a distinctive flavor unlike any other oysters grown in Duxbury Bay. After the hatchery and nursery process as seedlings, they mature in raised trays (similar to how Row 34's and Aunt Dotty's grow just a short boat ride away). They will be harvested at 18-24 months.

Why they’re unique:
The farm sits in the shadow of the Myles Standish Monument. Just beyond the historic Howland's Landing shipyard, you will find the farm in the spot where many famous pilgrims and settlers once foraged for shellfish.

Story:
Ben grew up in Duxbury in the historic Cable House l on the marshy banks of the Bluefish River. His childhood was spent fishing at high tide and exploring the mudflats at low tide, collecting various shellfish and treasures. In the summers in between his Fisheries Management and Ecology studies, Ben spent his time working at Island Creek Oysters, which eventually led to a full time job on the farm post graduation. Howland's Honeydrops are the manifestation of his education, experiences, and dreams of one day owning his own oyster farm!

Oyster FAQ

How long do my oysters keep?

Your oysters keep in the refrigerator for 5-7 days!  You can order a day or two early to make sure you have them in time for your gathering.  They are totally fine hangin’ out in the cool air.

How do I store these bad boys?

When you receive your package, pull them out of the box (these guys need a little fresh air!). Grab a mixing bowl and throw the mesh bag in the bowl so that the oysters don’t leak all over your refrigerator. Grab a damp cloth and throw the cloth over the bowl.  You are good to go for the next 5-7 days. Doesn’t hurt to dampen the cloth each day to keep them moist and chilled.

Should I keep them on ice?

Only put the oysters on ice before service.  The oysters will actually die in the melted fresh water so do not store the oysters on ice.  They will not like this.

How are they shipped?

We ship using FedEx Overnight service. You will receive tracking info after the label has been printed the day before your oysters are set to arrive.  We do not require a signature – Fedex will leave your package at your doorstep.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Short answer: YES!

Our ClimaCell thermal liners are made of 90% FSC certified virgin kraft paper and corn starch, which allows you to recycle the insulated liner at home along with the cardboard box.

Not only are the liners water repellant, they’re just as insulating as traditional styrofoam AND they can be recycled up to 5 times. Saving the planet has never been easier.

A new treat!!

"I went to place an oyster order last week and discovered Honeydrops as an option I hadn’t seen before. Based on the description and where they are harvested, it sounded like something we’d like. Well, that’s an understatement. Maybe our new favorites, as their name, sweet and mellow, but with a wonderful briny blast. On top of that, easy to shuck, we really enjoyed them!!"

Honeydrop Yum

"Our order arrived on time and packed perfectly. They were pretty clean right out of the bag. These were surprisingly easy to open. We devoured 50 between the two of us! Sweet and delicious!"

Becky C. (5/5)

First disapointment ever with Island Creek

"Half of them were opened. They smelled sour very fishy. We threw them out. Both ice packs were on the bottom of the box, which I believed contributed to their going bad on the trip, unless of course they were already bad when they were boxed."

Best Oysters

"I order oysters for my husband a couple times a year. He's an oyster snob for sure. Island Creek oysters regardless of the type he says are the best oysters he's ever had. His absolute favorite is the Martha's Vineyards but these Honey drops did not disappoint. I can't say enough about the quality and service."

Robert M. (5/5)

Honey drop FTW

"I have ordered oysters regularly from Island Creek and these are by far my favorite! Delightfully surprised by the flavor profile (briny and then sweet at the end to me). These also are easier to open/shuck than other types. (Please keep them on the regular rotation!) Shipping was excellent and timely as usual."

Monica S. (5/5)
